GROUP TOUR BOOKINGS CLOSE February 1, 2025

(or when tour is full – whichever is earlier)

We have an itinerary for this tour taking in

all nine UNESCO World Heritage sites pictured below.

Here is the proposed itinerary for the 2026 World Heritage tour of Morocco.

DAY 1 – October 22, 2026: Tangier (Thursday)

MEALS: Dinner (D)

Pick-up in Tangier and drive about 1.5 hrs to your overnight accommodation in Tetouan. Welcome dinner that evening.

#1 UNESCO World Heritage site
Medina of Tetouan (formerly known as Titawin)

DAY 2 – October 23, 2026: Tetouan > explore the medina > Chefchaouen (Friday – Holy Day)

MEALS: Breakfast (B) & D

Tetouan, once the capital of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco, is a fascinating city at the foot of the Rif Mountains and only a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. The Spanish influence is unsurprisingly strong here and after a wander through the medina (your first UNESCO World Heritage site) with our tour guide, you’ll drive to your accommodation in the blue city of Chefchaouen about 3.5 hours away.

DAY 3 – October 24, 2026: Chefchaouen > Fez (Saturday)

MEALS: B & D

It would not be a tour of Morocco’s historic sites without a visit to the blue city, so this morning will be spent exploring Chefchaouen with its wonderful blue-washed cityscape of which its local inhabitants are so proud. Warning: lots of steps. From there, it’s about a 4-hour drive to your accommodation in Fez, an ancient Riad. You’ll be in Fez for two nights, so there’s plenty of time to discover the sites, especially the walled medina, and absorb the Moroccan culture and experience.

Cake shop in the Fez medina, near the famous Blue Gate. Sells some sweets said to have aphrodisiac qualities too.

DAY 4 – October 25, 2026: Fez (Sunday)

MEALS: B, L

This morning, you can explore the labyrinthine Medina of Fez (the 2nd UNESCO World Heritage site on our tour). It is one of the best conserved historic sites in the Arab-Muslim world. In the afternoon the tour group will visit Bhalil, cave-home town, about 30 minutes from Fez, for lunch in a cave home with some locals and a walk around the oldest part of the town. Evening free. We will have some restaurant suggestions for you though.

In Bhalil, the women wear white chador’s traditionally, whereas in the south they are black, albeit embroidered with colourful flowers in the case of the Amazigh.

DAY 5 – October 26, 2026: Fez > Volubilis> Meknes > Rabat  (Monday)

MEALS: B, L & D

Today includes a 3.5-hour drive to Rabat, extended by stops along the way at the next UNESCO World Heritage sites, Volubilis and Meknes, so it will be a busy day’s travel. We’ll stop by for a Chef’s lunch at a farm near Volubilis too. You will spend overnight in Rabat (UNESCO World Heritage site #5) where we will likewise do some exploration.

#3 UNESCO World Heritage site Archaeological site of Volubilis with many wildflowers – in October you might see white narcissis for example.

#4 UNESCO World Heritage site Historic city of Meknes. This is the famous gate painted by Delacroix as the backdrop to the Sultan astride his black stallion, in 1832.

#5 UNESCO World Heritage site: Rabat. This is the soldier standing guard at Mohammed V Mausoleum.

DAY 6 – October 27, 2026: Rabat > Casablanca > El Jadida (Tuesday)

MEALS: B & D

This morning’s drive to Casablanca and then to the heritage site El Jadida takes about 2.5 hours. However, with stops to explore, you can expect to reach your accommodation in El Jadida later in the afternoon. The port city is on the Atlantic coast, so it is a beautiful drive, You are likely to see ancient Marabouts dotting the landscape along the way. (We wrote about these in a blog post under our “Morocco Insider’ tab on our website), Also possibly some camels grazing near the road, with the ocean as a curious backdrop to these desert animals.

#6 UNESCO World Heritage site .Portuguese city of Mazagan (El Jadida). This is a photo of an old Arab window permitting ladies in traditional families to look without being seen, high up on a building otherwise subject to Portuguese design flourishes.

DAY 7 – October 28, 2026: El Jadida > Essaouira (Wednesday)

MEALS: B, D.

It’s about a 3.5-hours drive to Essaouira, without counting any stops along the way.

As there’s been quite a bit of driving each day since Rabat, you will stop for an extra night in Essaouira to gather yourselves.

DAY 8 – October 29, 2026: Essaouira – free day (Thursday)

MEALS: B

The 18th century fortified town was once known as the Port of Timbuktu (a location once associated with being at the back-of-beyond). Today, people come here for a ‘chill’ beach holiday. So, you can explore the medina (our 7th UNESCO World Heritage site), the jewish mellah with an active synagogue, go to the beach, enjoy the local cuisine which is usually very good, and generally rest up for the next part of our memorable tour. It is not too difficult to navigate Essaouira’s medina because, having been built by the Portuguese, it is designed as a grid, in stark contrast to the rabbit warren style of most other medinas in Morocco.

#7 UNESCO World Heritage site – Medina in Essaouira (formerly Mogador), with morning sea mist. It really is an evocative place.

DAY 9 – October 30, 2026: Essaouira > Marrakech (Friday – Holy day)

MEALS: B, D.

After breakfast, today’s drive to Marrakech takes about 3 hours where you’ll stay for two nights. Remember that a few places will be closed today. Dinner tonight at our accommodation.

DAY 10 – October 31, 2026: Marrakech (Saturday)

MEALS: B

Today, we visit the winding streets of the medina (the 8th UNESCO World Heritage site), which is surrounded by about 19 kilometres of ramparts built in the 12th century.

DAY 11 – November 1, 2026: Marrakech > Ait Ben Haddou (Sunday)

MEALS: B, D

The drive to Ait Ben Haddou takes about 3.5 hours, not counting stops along the way. You’ll explore the heritage site and overnight there, before taking an early morning flight the next day. The fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou is wonderfully photogenic and seen in many films including The Mummy, Prince of Persia and television’s Game of Thrones. Tonight we will have our farewell dinner together.

DAY 12 – November 2, 2026: Ait Ben Haddou > Ouarzazate airport (Monday)

MEALS: —

The tour ends with a 30-minute drive to Ouarzazate airport, where you’ll take your early morning Royal Air Maroc flight to Casablanca.

Take this chance to explore the cultural sites of Morocco.
