RELAXED MOUNTAIN group tour

from Agadir to Marrakech

July 21 – 28, 2026

©Aussies In Morocco Tours™

Explore the nature and history of the

Anti Atlas and High Atlas Mountains.

This is the sister tour to our Relaxed Coastal tour,

which runs directly before this one,

and is a leisurely way to enjoy Morocco’s high country.

Give yourself more ‘downtime’ to relax and

enjoy the Moroccan lifestyle, the food and the sights.

Plus, we offer an optional extension of this tour

at the end of the itinerary.

BOOKINGS CLOSE April 1, 2026

(or when tour is full – whichever is earlier)

DAY 1 – July 21, 2026: Agadir > Taghazout (Tuesday)

MEALS: Dinner (D)

Pickup at Agadir airport for about a one-hour drive to the Radisson Hotel in Taghazout. You’ll stay in one of their bungalows at the surf village.

Enjoy a welcome dinner with the group in the evening.

Taghazout.

DAY 2 – July 22, 2026: Taghazout free day (Wednesday)

MEALS: Breakfast (B)  & D

Begin the tour with a relaxed day in Taghazout, to explore, visit an animal sanctuary (if possible) and gather for another group dinner in the evening.

As this is a free day, it’s up to you, what to do. You may choose to walk along the beach, stop at a local restaurant for lunch, and relax by the pool. Also, the accommodation may be able to offer you an excursion at your own cost, if you’d prefer to leave the planning to someone else and you give them enough advanced notice.

DAY 3 – July 23, 2026: Anti-Atlas Mountains >Taroudant (Thursday)

MEALS: B   Lunch (L)  & D

Prepare yourself today for a full day of driving and exploring. Also some staircases will need to be descended and ascended. Bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and even a handheld fan as it will be hot. We will have water in the vehicle for you.

After breakfast, you will drive through the Anti Atlas Mountains to see 1 or 2 ancient storehouses or agadirs, which were used to keep family valuables (and sometimes themselves as well) safe from marauders. Then, it’s onwards to Taroudant, known as the little sister of Marrakech.

We will select accommodation with traditional flourishes that will be comfortable and conveniently located.

Apparently there are 192 storehouses in this particular Agadir, the last one being in use as late as 2003.

It is common to see goats in argan nut trees as you drive through the Anti-Atlas mountains to see the ancient, restored agadirs.

DAY 4 – July 24, 2026: Taroudant (Friday)

MEALS: B & D

Enjoy breakfast before setting out for your morning tour of this beautiful city, that remains unspoiled by modern ways. It is particularly famous for its leather, terracotta ware and Amazigh jewellery, so shopping is always an interesting (but not obligatory!) experience. Also once you have paid the balance of the tour fee you will have access to our September 2024 facts sheet about Taroudant, which a local guide of the area helped us prepare.

The afternoon in Taroudant is at leisure, until the group gathers again for dinner.

Taroudant. See how much it looks like Marrakech here?

DAY 5 – July 25, 2026: High Atlas Mountains > Ouirgane (Saturday)

MEALS: B  L  & D

Following breakfast, there is a solid morning drive, around 4 hours, through the High Atlas Mountains to Ouirgane. The views are spectacular and the Berber villages are snapshots of the past. You’ll stop for a luxury picnic lunch in a secret place, overlooking views of the reservoir, Barrage Ouirgane, far below as well as have a (western toilet stop) where we go to pickup the picnic items. We will also be having a particularly nice dinner tonight as the food options are so good in this part of Morocco, so perhaps don’t go overboard at lunchtime.

It will be a relaxed afternoon, and you will be staying overnight in Ouirgane. We have a few excellent options here, which we are also visiting ourselves in October 2024 to check out.

DAY 6 – July 26, 2026: Imlil > Marrakech (Sunday)

MEALS: B & D

You’ll have a chat with the tour guide in order to come to a consensus about whether you want to visit Imlil after breakfast. It is a favourite base for trekking in the High Atlas and is 1800 metres above sea level but you might have had enough mountain sight-seeing by then. Next stop Marrakech, about 1.5 hours away, stopping at the Anima Gardens at Ourika along the way, where you can order lunch at the cafe there. This extraordinary 3-hectare botanical garden abounds with flowers, fragrances, pavilions and sculptures – it’s wonderful. In Marrakech you’ll have time to settle into your room at the riad, before joining the group in the dining room for the evening meal.

Anima Garden sculpture. What is so lovely too is walking past the rose garden and breathing in the scent.

DAY 7 – July 27, 2026: Marrakech  (Monday)

MEALS: B & D

After breakfast, you’ll take a morning guided tour of the medina. The afternoon is free, so you might like to visit a hammam bathhouse, have a relaxing massage, or keep exploring the sites (just let us know, and give us plenty of time to help organise something for you). The group might like to visit La Mamounia or the Royal Mansour for hammam followed by sunset drinks and a leisurely walk through their private garden. Whatever eventuates on the day, the group will meet up for a farewell dinner that evening.

Lamps for sale in the Marrakech medina. Sometimes their patterns are symbolically rich.

DAY 8 – July 28, 2026: Marrakech  (Tuesday)

MEALS: B

After breakfast, drop-off at Marrakech Menara Airport – END TOUR.

If you need drop-off at Casablanca airport (2.5 hours’ drive away) please discuss when you place your booking.

For those interested in continuing onto Essaouira for a few days, the optional extension to the itinerary is below.

OPTIONAL EXTRA

(as a private tour, unless minimum 6 continue – price on request)

DAY 8 cont. – July 28, 2026: Marrakech > Essaouira (Tuesday)

MEALS: B & D

After breakfast, drive to the port city of Essaouira (about 4 hours away) and settle into your accommodation at Riad Baladin (or equivalent). Relax for the rest of the day and explore what the riad and surrounding area has to offer.  Dinner is included.

DAY 9 – July 29, 2026: Essaouira (Wednesday)

MEALS: B

Following breakfast, you’ll have a morning tour of Essaouira visiting places of interest such as the medina and the seafront ramparts.

The afternoon is free, so you might like to spend it on the beach.

UNESCO World Heritage site – Medina in Essaouira (formerly Mogador)

DAY 10 – July 30, 2026: Essaouira > Marrakech  (Thursday)

MEALS: B

After breakfast you have the option to be taken back to Marrakech (arriving by 2pm). If you are taking a flight, you’ll need to be at the airport at least 3 hours beforehand.

Or, if you prefer, you can take the train from Marrakech to Casablanca.

END TOUR.
