BOOKINGS CLOSE February 1, 2025
(or when tour is full – whichever is earlier)
DAY 1 – April 22, 2025: Tangier (Tuesday)
MEALS: Dinner (D)
Morming and afternoon pickup at Tangier airport (or train station if you are coming on the bullet train from Casablanca), then taken to your accommodation to unpack and settle in.
You’ll be staying at La Maison Blanche, a riad dating from the 14th century (subject to availability, or equivalent).
The group will enjoy their first night together at dinner, in a beautiful garden setting.
Note that pickups before the tour start date will incur an additional fee.
DAY 2 – April 23, 2025: Tangier > Asilah (Wednesday)
MEALS: Breakfast (B) & D
After breakfast, there will be a morning to explore Tangier with the assistance of your tour guide. You’ll notice the mediterranean feel of the Tangier medina, in comparison with what you find in much of the rest of Morocco. Sights may include the Phoenician Tombs, the Kasbah museum and the Bab Al Bahr gate.
Later in Asilah, a 45-minute drive from Tangier along the Atlantic coast, you’ll settle in at your accommodation, Dar Ambrosia (subject to availability, or equivalent) where the group will have the run of the place, before sharing a dinner together.
Some of you may like to go for a pre-dinner, easy walk along the medina wall facing the sea at the golden hour before sunset, either this evening or tomorrow evening. It is a good opportunity to see some of the coastline, along a well-defined route, as well as the street art for which Asilah is famous.
DAY 3 – April 24, 2025: Asilah (Thursday)
MEALS: B Lunch (L) & D
After breakfast today, will be a visit to a permaculture farm outside of Asilah. This includes a talk and demonstration on the healing properties of certain herbs, followed by a tasty lunch using organic ingredients.
Interesting fact: Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren originally coined the word ‘permaculture’ in the 1970s to describe a sustainable system of organic gardening and lifestyle.
A simple dinner tonight, back at our Dar.
DAY 4 – April 25, 2025: Asilah > Chefchaouen(Friday)
MEALS: B & D
Today you leave the coast and drive the 150km to Chefchaouen (about 2.5 hours away) through fields of spring wildflowers. This ‘blue pearl’ of Morocco, with its signature blue-washed buildings is located in the Rif Mountains.
Known for its’ quirky, artisanal Amazigh-inspired interior design, you’ll stay at Dar Laman 2 (or equivalent) for two nights. So you may choose to have a relaxing afternoon at the dar, before going out for the evening meal at Bab Ssour, the most famous restaurant in Chefchaouen – they serve authentic Moroccan dishes prepared by skilled chefs.
DAY 5 – April 26, 2025: Chefchaouen (Saturday)
MEALS: B & D
In the morning, we offer a guided tour of the blue medina, with you to have your pick of eateries around the local square, Place Uta El Hammam for lunch. The Chefchaouen medina is replete with steep steps, but you can ask the guide to take you in a generally downward direction at the base of which your driver can pick you up, to take you to a car park just above the entrance to your Dar.
In the early afternoon, there will also be an opportunity (for those on the tour who wish to avail themselves of it) to explore the countryside surrounding Chefchaouen on foot. The area is famous for its hikes, and you’ll have a local hiking guide to show the way.
Tonight, dinner is a meal of pizza on the rooftop terrace of the dar, with a view of the medina spread out below you.
DAY 6 – April 27, 2025: Chefchaouen > Volubilis > Moulay Idriss Zerhoun (Sunday)
MEALS: B L & D
After breakfast, you’ll again travel through fields of wildflowers to Volubilis – an ancient Roman settlement. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site listed for being “an exceptionally well-preserved example” of a Roman settlement. Lunch will be a meal inspired by Roman recipes at a nearby farm.
Then, onto the holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun (about 5km away) where the purveyor of Islam to Morocco is interred and from which non-Moslems were banned until recent times.
Stay overnight at Dar Zerhoune (or equivalent). (It was constructed atop a water well originally).
DAY 7 – April 28, 2025: Moulay Idriss Zerhoun (Monday)
MEALS: L & D
After a morning guided tour around Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, you’ll return to yesterday’s farm for lunch – it is worth a second visit! For a bit of variety, those of you who are keen can make the second trip by donkey (also known as the “Berber taxi”). Only going there, however (and it is an optional extra), as all the group will return to Moulay Idriss Zerhoun with our driver. Later, there is also the option to enjoy a golden hour guided walk in the surrounding nature.
Everyone will gather back at the dar for dinner.
DAY 8 – April 29, 2025: Moulay Idriss Zerhoun > Fez (Tuesday)
MEALS: B & D
After a leisurely breakfast, the tour moves on to Fez (about 1.5 hours by road). Once you’ve settled in at your traditional riad (precisely which one to be determined) there will be an afternoon guided tour of the medina. This labyrinthine medina is another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is huge.
Dinner this evening will be somewhere nice.
DAY 9 – April 30, 2025: Fez (Wednesday)
MEALS: B L & D
Today will be a day to enjoy being a traditional craftsperson yourself, with a morning zouaq painting workshop and and afternoon henna and caftan party for the ladies.
Our final meal together will be somewhere special – hopefully a highlight of your adventure with us. It will probably be a bit earlier than usual, in case of early departures tomorrow. Weather permitting, it will be on a rooftop in Fez, but more about that as we approach the tour departure date.
DAY 10 – May 1, 2025: Fez (Thursday)
MEALS: B
Up to one drop-off at each of Fez airport and Fez train station. For an additional fee we can take you to Casablanca airport (to be mentioned by you and organised at booking time)
